Madhusudan Meher is an appliqué artisan based in Butupalli village, Boudh district, Odisha. He learned the craft from a local master artisan belonging to the lineage of Khairu Meher, rather than through direct family inheritance, marking a slightly different mode of knowledge transmission within the village. Now approximately 70 years old, his practice reflects both continuity and variation within the craft tradition. He produces similar ritual objects as other artisans in the region, contributing to the collective production associated with Danda Yatra. Currently, his son and daughter-in-law are also engaged in the craft, continuing the lineage of practice. His work highlights the role of local masters and community-based learning in sustaining the craft beyond strictly familial lines.
