Day one: Roots and resonance in Pipili.
Beginning the journey through living appliqué traditions.
The residency began in the vibrant lanes of Pipili with a visit to a 100 year old chatti carefully preserved by artisan Sujit Mahapatra, a space that holds memories of craft and community.
Guided by artist Umesh Mahapatra, the residents were introduced to the rich legacy of Pipili’s appliqué tradition. His stories and lived experience offered a grounding in the history, setting the tone for deeper exploration and dialogue in the days ahead.
