Arjun Meher is a 40-year-old textile applique artisan based in Ainthapalli, Boudh district, Odisha. He began learning the craft during childhood through family apprenticeship and self-learning, acquiring skills through observation and sustained engagement with materials. Working primarily with textile and mirrors and tools such as sewing machine and needles, his practice reflects inherited knowledge alongside adaptations developed over time. The craft holds cultural and social significance within its community and is closely tied to temple ritual, ceremonial insignia, or everyday use, shaped by local resources and seasonal rhythms. Economically, Arjun Meher sustains his livelihood through local markets/collectives while negotiating challenges such as material scarcity, market pressures, or seasonal customer preferences.
