Harasmani Mohapatra is a 60-year-old appliqué artisan based in Pipili, Puri district, Odisha. He began learning the craft at the age of 10 within a family tradition centred on traditional chandua making. Working with appliqué fabrics, thread, and mirror elements, his practice is rooted in established methods of handwork using basic tools such as scissors and sewing needles. His work serves ritual, social, and everyday purposes, maintaining continuity with long-standing applications of the craft. His production is primarily oriented toward local markets, though he has also participated in institutional platforms such as NIFT and KIIT. Like many artisans in the region, he navigates constraints related to raw material availability, market pressures, and declining interest among younger generations.
