A 65-year-old artisan from Bhuban, Odisha, Ishwar is one of the last custodians of a 150-year-old family tradition of kansa (bell metal) craftsmanship. Son of Shankar Sahoo, he runs a small workshop with two assistants, producing traditional utensils like tatiya (small bowl) and thaliya (plate) using a copper and tin alloy. He makes 8-12 pieces of products every single day using 5 kgs of kansa. Pathani Prusty, 65, works with Ishwar at his shala. Chayakanta Sahoo and Rabi Narayan Sahoo also work for Ishwar Chandra.
