In Nuagaon village, Sadeibereni, Dhenkanal, the practice of Dokra craft continues through generations, with skills and knowledge shared within families.

During a field visit, the OCO team met Chandan Majhi as he worked on a Maana, a traditional rice-measuring vessel. Its making revealed the collective effort of his family, with each member contributing to different stages of the process—from preparing and kneading the mud to coiling, shaping, and adding details to the form.

The making of the Maana goes beyond the creation of a single object. It reflects a shared family practice in which each stage involves accumulated experience, collaborative work, and the passing down of skills. Through these everyday acts of making and learning, Dokra craft continues to be practised and sustained across generations.
