During Field Trip 03, fellows of the Odisha Craft Odyssey Residency Programme travelled through the appliqué craft clusters of Gudigaon, Khaliakani, Katabaga, Samada, and Bhatlaida in Jharsuguda district. The visit offered an opportunity to engage with artisans across multiple communities, documenting the diverse practices and knowledge systems that continue to shape the craft.
Through conversations, workshop visits, and close observation of everyday making, the fellows explored how appliqué traditions are sustained across generations while responding to changing social and economic realities. Each interaction contributed new perspectives on the relationship between craft, community, and cultural identity. Field Trip 03 strengthened the residency's ongoing commitment to documenting Odisha's living craft traditions through immersive research and meaningful collaboration with artisan communities.
